If you have a Google Pixel 6, it may be wise not to upgrade to the latest Android 15 update right now. This is because some reports have surfaced about the update causing some of the devices to become “bricked”—a term used when a device becomes unresponsive and unusable.

What's Causing the Problem?

Interestingly, the Android 15 update may not directly cause this issue. According to some reports on Reddit, some users have experienced their phones dying after setting up Private Space, a feature that allows creating a new profile and securely storing sensitive data. Once this feature is activated, users find their devices completely non-functional, and general troubleshooting methods like hard resets or connecting to a computer don't help fix this.

Some users have speculated that the problem could be related to how the Pixel 6 handles multiple user profiles. A similar issue previously occurred with Android 14, where users were temporarily locked out of their internal storage. However, this did not leave the device completely bricked. This time, the problem appears more severe, making phones completely unusable.

Should You Update?

This issue doesn't affect all Pixel 6 users. Many have successfully updated to the latest Android 15 update and used Private Space without issues. However, considering that several devices have become inoperable, delaying the update until Google releases an official fix could be a smart move.

Still, if you want to move ahead and update your Pixel 6, make sure to back up your data. While the new features in Android 15, such as private space, offer several new features, the risk of bricking your phone makes waiting for another patch safer.
