Discord has recently introduced a new way to block people without making it obvious. The feature is called Ignore, and it works similarly to a mute button. It allows users to hide messages from someone without their knowledge, avoiding awkward situations or drama.
How Does Ignore Work?
When you Ignore someone, their messages and activity won't appear for you, but they can still see your profile and write messages (which you won't be able to see unless you choose to unignore them). This makes it a more subtle way to step away from unwanted interactions without the other person realizing.
You can use the Ignore feature in different ways, including the following:
From a User’s Profile

Desktop: Right-click their avatar, select Ignore, and confirm.

Mobile: Tap their avatar, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, and select Ignore.
In a Direct Message (DM)

Desktop: Right-click their name in DMs, select Ignore, and confirm.

Mobile: Tap their name in DMs, tap the three dots, and select Ignore.
After Reporting a Message

Desktop: Right-click the message, select Report, and after submitting, choose Ignore from the menu.

Mobile: Long-press the message, tap Report, and then select Ignore after submitting.
Through Safety Alerts

If Discord detects a potentially unsafe message, teen users will see a Safety Alert and can choose to Ignore the sender.
How to See Your Ignored Users List
You can check and manage the people you’ve ignored anytime, here's how:

On Desktop: Go to User Settings > Content & Social > Accounts you’ve blocked & ignored.

On Mobile: Tap your avatar in the bottom-right, go to Settings, then Content & Social, and find the Ignored Accounts list.
Why Is This Feature Important?
Discord added Ignore as part of its safety tools, especially for teenagers who want to avoid someone without creating conflicts. It makes it easier to set limits and avoid escalating situations.
This update also comes as Discord joins companies like OpenAI and Google in supporting ROOST, a non-profit aimed at detecting and preventing child abuse online.
Discord's Ignore feature makes online spaces comfortable while offering users more control over their experiences.
