The Attack on Titan franchise is renowned worldwide for its grotesque yet impressive visuals that perfectly capture its chaotic and mysterious apocalyptic world. While the manga gained popularity on its own, the anime's release brought it to a broader audience, earning the series a place among the best anime shows.

Despite the premise of swinging around and dodging certain death at the hands of naked titans being a perfect fit for the best VR headsets, there hasn’t been an official entry on the best PCVR games list. There are a few fan-made games, but nothing from a professional development team.

Fortunately, the upcoming release of Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable is giving virtual reality fans an official AoT game, and it's set to release later this month in early access. Many of us were hoping for an Attack on Titan game that could make it onto the best Meta Quest 3 games list, but it doesn’t seem like it will be up to par.

The first gameplay trailer doesn’t give users much reason to expect a great Attack on Titan game. All the trademark features are present, from naked titans roaming empty streets to the ability to swing across towns in seconds, but the visuals and clunky footage leave much to be desired.

Fans are already disappointed by the official gameplay. On Twitter, "Attack on Titan VR Faces Backlash Ahead of Launch" is trending, with news articles and Twitter users sharing their thoughts on the upcoming game. Despite the low price of $4.99 when it releases later in July in early access, many fans aren’t eager to dive into UNIVRS’ version of the series. In fact, our piece on Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable is part of the trending discussion too.

UNIVRS promises 2-3 hours of gameplay per chapter, with two chapters available at launch. The developer also promises version 1.0, with co-op and additional chapters arriving later this year. However, considering UNIVRS’ only other game, Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing, was also a disappointing licensed title, our hopes aren’t high.

In any case, we hope the game evolves during early access to become a worthy Attack on Titan adaptation in virtual reality. However, it seems we might have to stick with fan games and other flatscreen titles if the gameplay is like the latest footage.
