WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature for iOS users that would allow them to link their Instagram profile to their account. According to WABetaInfo, this update is designed to allow users to showcase their social media presence within WhatsApp, allowing contacts to find them on other platforms.
The feature was spotted in the WhatsApp for iOS beta app version 25.2.10.72, available via the TestFlight test program. However, it is still under development and is not yet accessible to testers.

A screenshot shared by WABetaInfo reveals that the functionality is being integrated into the "Links" section within the Profile settings. Users will apparently be able to manually enter their Instagram username by tapping on the new "Add Links" button. Interestingly, at this point, the tool doesn’t require a login, so anyone will be able to add an Instagram link without verification.
This may raise issues about identity theft and impersonation, as malicious users may falsely associate themselves with an Instagram profile. To address this, WhatsApp is expected to introduce an authentication step before the official rollout.
The ability to link social media accounts isn't entirely new for WhatsApp, as business accounts already have a similar option. However, before integrating their Instagram accounts, business users are required to authenticate them. The latest upgrade appears to provide more freedom for regular users, making the process simpler but also introducing possible security risks.
Importantly, this feature will be optional, allowing users to choose if they want to display their Instagram links. They will also be able to modify their privacy settings and remove the link at any moment.

While Instagram is the only supported platform in the beta version, there is speculation that WhatsApp may expand this feature to encompass other Meta-owned services like Facebook and Threads. However, it is uncertain whether third-party platforms like X or Snapchat will be supported in the future.
As of now, WhatsApp hasn't announced an official release date because the feature is still in development. We can expect more details to emerge as the update progresses towards a stable rollout.
