Apple's long-rumored entry into the foldable smartphone market could finally be taking shape, and according to the latest leaks, the wait could be well worth it. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for reliable Apple predictions, has shared some insights about what could be a game-changing device.

According to Kuo, Apple's first foldable iPhone is expected to be released between late 2026 and early 2027. However, the price tag could give some potential buyers a pause—Kuo predicts that the device will cost between $2,000 and $2,500. While the device may seem expensive to some, this pricing isn't out of line with competitors like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold, which launched at a similar price point.
One of the most notable features of Apple's foldable iPhone is expected to be its design. Kuo suggests that the device will have a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.8-inch internal screen, making it a book-style foldable rather than a flip phone. Apple is reportedly prioritizing a crease-free display, which will be a significant improvement over existing foldable phones that often have visible screen folds.
When unfolded, the device is expected to be remarkably thin, measuring between 4.5 mm and 4.8 mm, even slimmer than the latest iPad Pro models. When folded, it will have a thickness of 9-9.5mm, making it bulkier than a standard iPhone but still in line with foldable competitors.
Apple is rumored to use a titanium alloy body and a stainless steel titanium hinge for increased durability. However, to maintain the device's sleek form factor, Apple may opt for a dual-lens rear camera setup instead of the triple-lens systems found on high-end smartphones. Additionally, Face ID may also be absent and replaced by Touch ID integrated into the side button due to design limitations.
According to Kuo, Apple is marketing the foldable iPhone as a "True AI-driven iPhone," with a large internal display designed to enhance AI functionalities. This could help with features like real-time organization, chatbot-assisted planning, and interactive multitasking.

Apple's first foldable iPhone has been in development for years, and while it won't be available until at least late 2026, the company appears committed to delivering a polished product. Production challenges could limit initial supply, but if the device is successful, Kuo says a second-generation model could follow by 2027.
Given Apple's history of refining new product categories, its debut foldable could set a new standard, potentially propelling foldable phones into the mainstream.
