Analyzing data and creating visualization could be time-consuming, but Google's Gemini AI makes it easier for Sheets users by automatically generating charts based on spreadsheet data.

Instead of manually creating graphs, users will be able to ask Gemini questions about the data. The system will provide insights, identify trends, and create static charts that can be inserted directly into the spreadsheet.

For example, a marketing analyst can ask, "What are my top three performing sales channels?" Gemini will generate a breakdown and support visualization. Similarly, a business owner tracking cash flow can request a net income forecast based on historical data, while a financial analyst investigating inventory levels can ask Gemini to identify abnormalities in stock movements.

Gemini achieves this by generating and running Python code to evaluate the data. However, simple queries may rely on ordinary spreadsheet formulas. This eliminates the requirement for users to build sophisticated scripts while offering a deeper, automated analysis of spreadsheet data.

However, these AI-generated charts are static images and won't refresh when the data changes. When users make changes to their data set, they will have to create a new chart. To achieve reliable results, Google recommends using a consistent data format with a clear header and no missing values.

Users of Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus, as well as those with Gemini Education add-ons or the $19.99 per month Google One AI Premium subscription, will be the first for whom the feature will progressively become available.

The rollout begins on January 29, 2025, and it is expected to end by February 20, 2025.

With this release, Gemini AI takes another step towards simplifying data analysis and making it more accessible for professionals across industries.
