X (formerly known as Twitter) is experiencing its third major outage in a single day, leaving users frustrated and unable to access the platform. According to Downdetector, reports of login failures and site inaccessibility have increased, with over 40,000 complaints registered during the second outage. Now, a third disruption is underway, and it appears to be lasting longer than the previous two.
The first outage occurred earlier today, but it was fixed quickly. However, the second outage resulted in a far bigger influx of reports, and while it was restored within 45 minutes, the social media platform has gone down yet again within a short period. Users in the U.S. and the U.K. have been particularly affected, with hotspots in New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago showing significant activity on Downdetector.

There is a lot of speculation concerning this because of these frequent failures. Some users and analysts believe that X is being targeted with a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack. If this is the case, either the attackers have found a new vulnerability, or X's developers can't implement a long-term solution to safeguard the platform.
Frustration is building as X hasn't yet issued an official response regarding the outages. Many users who rely on the platform to stay up to date on breaking news and trends are using alternatives such as Bluesky and Downdetector's comment section to discuss the disruptions.

This wave of outages is one of the most major since Elon Musk's acquisition of the platform in 2022, following past instances of service instability in 2023 and 2024. With no immediate resolution in sight, it remains unclear for how long this latest outage will last or if X will continue to encounter disruption throughout the day.
