- Quick Answer: We recommend games similar to Mina the Hollower for fans of GBC-inspired adventure titles.
Mina the Hollower is so close. After years of anticipation and painful delays, Yacht Club Games is set to arrive on every major platform this May 29.
Old-school fans know what they can expect from the expansive world of Tenebrous Isle, which can be as punishing as it is charming while being incredibly fun to explore.
I've personally been having a blast and will talk at greater length in my upcoming preview and eventual review. That said, if you're someone who's just trying to figure out what type of game Mina the Hollower is, let's take a look at a few games that are similar to Yatch Club's upcoming love letter to the Game Boy Color era.
Games Like Mina the Hollower
Mina the Hollower is heavily inspired by a lot of classic adventure games from the GBC era, so if you want to play something similar, I recommend the following:
- The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
- The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons
- Castlevania: The Adventure
- Dragonyhm
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
The Game Boy Zelda games are perhaps the strongest visual and gameplay influence on Mina the Hollower.

While Yacht Club Games has also cited the likes of Bloodborne in terms of challenge, if you want to experience the games that directly inspired Mina's adventure, Link's Awakening is the best way to start.
Originally released for the Game Boy in 1993, the game's most popular version is the DX remaster for the Game Boy Color, which is available on Nintendo Switch Online. There's also a full-fledged remake, also on Nintendo Switch.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Another portable classic Zelda adventure. The Oracle duology was developed by indie developer Flagship.

That's right, they weren't in-house developed Zelda titles. And, okay, indie might be a stretch considering the studio got backing by Nintendo and Capcom, which eventually absorbed Flagship, still, it was a historied studio that helped both Japanese developers craft incredible experiences in the late 1990s to early 2000s.
Both games are available via the Nintendo Online service.
Castlevania Legends
Castlevania has a long history in the Game Boy family of consoles, and Legends is perhaps the ugly duckling, as it eventually became a non-canon adventure featuring the first Belmont, Sonia.

The game is, of course, a side-scrolling adventure. One that's very challenging, with various difficulty levels as you make your way to defeat the first ever incarnation of Count Dracula.
It's also available via the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Dragonyhm
Dragonyhm, much like Mina the Hollower, is a retro-inspired new RPG that was released in late 2024.

The game was only released physically for the ModRetro Chromatic, a modern hardware designed to play retro Game Boy titles. However, the cartridge itself can also be played in the original Game Boy Color.
It's inspired by the likes of NES Final Fantasy games as well as handheld Zelda titles of the time. You can try getting it via the ModRetro Chromatic site when it's in stock.
And that's it. Stick with us at StealthOptional.com: your go-to source for all things retro and indie games.
