Wearing an all-powerful ring that grants unimaginable abilities sounds exciting, but I find the Samsung Galaxy Ring equally intriguing in a different way. Samsung offers numerous tools to help users track their fitness and sleep statistics, and the Galaxy Ring stands out for several reasons.
Despite the Galaxy Unpacked event being one of the most anticipated smartphone events of the year, the reveal of the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 left many fans disappointed. However, as we approach the Samsung Galaxy Ring release date, I believe this may be one of Samsung's best accessories in recent memory.
Unlike many accessories that seem to copy Apple, like the new AirPods-style stem on the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, the Galaxy Ring appears wholly unique. While smart rings are not new, with Oura and Ultrahuman being some of Samsung's biggest rivals, the Galaxy Ring is in an interesting position—one that could define smart rings as a must-have piece of tech.
Many people are familiar with smartwatches, but they have only become prevalent (and useful) in recent years. With Apple, Samsung, and Google all competing to top the best smartwatches list, the competition is fierce.
With the release of the Galaxy Ring, Samsung is positioning itself as the maker of the smart ring to own. Other brands aren't as popular as the Galaxy S24 manufacturer, and if Samsung can deliver a great product at launch, people will see Samsung as the company introducing smart rings to the general audience.
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of smartwatches. The need to charge them frequently makes it difficult to enjoy or rely on them. I like Samsung's traditional-style watch design but prefer the Apple Watch's features and operating system. However, the real issue remains the battery life, which, in my experience, has been disappointing.
The Galaxy Ring's roughly seven-day battery life, stylish design, and essential features—fitness and sleep tracking—make me eager to test it out. Admittedly, I believe the price is a bit too high for its worth, and I think dealing with different ring sizes will be tedious for Samsung. Still, the Galaxy Ring is easily the most promising and interesting device revealed by Samsung this year.
Of course, the lack of a screen and the high price may deter many potential buyers. However, with Samsung's Apple-like progress in software updates and the fact it syncs with the Galaxy Watch, I feel the Galaxy Ring has a good chance of being a hit. In any case, I'm excited to finally test it out soon.
