Man of Steel launched so close to the end of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy that many believed the two to be linked. Obviously, that was not the case as Warner Bros fast-tracked their DCEU to compete with Marvel.
DCEU director Zack Snyder has revealed that there were plans to have Man of Steel and Nolan's trilogy to be connected. However, those plans fell through and a new Batman was quickly introduced into Warner Bros' DCEU.
Man of Steel was briefly in the NolanVerse
Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder revealed that connecting his Superman to Nolan's Batman was on the table. However, fans wouldn't have seen Christian Bale's Bat take on Cavill's Superman. Instead, it would've been Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
In the end, it was decided that Nolan's universe would be its own beast. Of course, Nolan still stayed on as an executive producer on Man of Steel. In fact, the Batman Begins director was heavily involved in the creation of the Superman reboot.

Ben Affleck’s Batman could've been very different
Batman v Superman's incarnation of Bruce Wayne feels perfectly suited to Ben Affleck. The older, Dark Knight Returns inspired Caped Crusader couldn't have been played by anyone better. With that said, Snyder did plan to have Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts in the role of Affleck turned it down. However, the actor felt he wasn't old enough for the role.
Thankfully, Ben Affleck took on the role of the Caped Crusader for Batman v Superman. While it's not a perfect movie, Affleck's fantastic performance shines through, even in the butchered theatrical cut. For a lot of people, he's the Batman.
