  • Quick Answer: Wild Blue Skies is a new anime-style rail shooter from a Star Fox veteran, launching August 13 for Xbox Series, PS5, and PC.

The reception to the latest Star Fox game has been mixed, to say the least. If the super-realistic depiction of anthropomorphic animals is not your vibe, perhaps a more colorful anime-style rail shooter, then Wild Blue Skies is right up your alley. It's releasing this upcoming August 13 on Xbox Series, PS5, and PC (via Steam).

During the Mix Summer Game Showcase, developer Chuhai Labs dropped a new trailer showcasing some of the frenetic dogfighting gameplay, featuring Bowie Stray, the game's protagonist, and his squadmates.

The gameplay looks slick, and the animations are incredibly lively. If you haven't seen the trailer, check it out below.

What's even cooler is that the studio developing it was founded by none other than Giles Goddard, one of the developers behind the original Star Fox, so you know they have expertise when it comes to on-rail adventures.

At the moment, there is no information on a potential Nintendo Switch port, which would be a massive miss for the team, as it seems like it would fit Nintendo's hybrid system like a glove.

It's also unconfirmed whether it will have any multiplayer component or online functionality. Still, what I've seen of the game looks quite fantastic. August can't come soon enough.
