As someone who isn’t a fan of hard mousepads and dislikes flashy RGB, I was surprised by how intrigued I was with the Razer Firefly V2 Pro—a mouse pad that, by any means, I shouldn’t like. The all-backlit mouse pad is flashy and stands out like a sore thumb on any desk that isn’t a disco.

Despite its high price, which may deter many people like myself, the Razer Firefly V2 Pro is an exceptional piece of tech. It not only looks incredible but also has neat features that make it stand out compared to other sturdy pads. If you’re a fan of RGB or use a wireless mouse, you’ll want to pick this up.

Arriving in a flat and mostly unassuming box, the Razer Firefly V2 Pro’s design is quite different than what I expected. While the images suggest a translucent-style design, the Firefly V2 Pro is much more opaque. There’s a border of transparent glass around the pad, but the main bulk of the device has a close-to-solid white color. However, that’s not where the magic lies.

Plugging in the Firefly V2 Pro reveals a plethora of colors as the pad shines nicely. It stands out, but it’s not as intense as you might think. Without Synapse, the default lighting will slowly rotate through a rainbow of hues and shades, not sticking out as badly as one might fear from the images. Using Razer’s software (as fiddly and tedious as it is), you can access a huge array of lighting options, from a fast-moving rainbow wave to a static color. You can also adjust the brightness of the device.

The all-white suits both black and white gaming mice. The dark blacks of different Razer peripherals contrast with the bright lights and sleek white of the Firefly V2 Pro, while the Cobra Pro blends in well with the setup. Add in a white keyboard, and you’ll have a nice set of peripherals that look great. Fortunately, the BlackWidow V4 Pro now comes in white too.

As a mouse pad, it’s not too grippy for my desk. Unfortunately, the anti-slip texture underneath doesn’t do a great job of keeping it still while playing games. If you’re someone who gets forceful with your best gaming mice during intense matches, chances are this will move with relative ease. It’s a disappointing point in an otherwise great mouse pad, but one worth noting.

However, the Razer Firefly V2 Pro’s best feature isn’t the lighting—it’s the extra USB port. While a handy USB-C cable powers the mouse pad, there’s an additional port at the top, giving you a place to add a wireless dongle for your mouse or keyboard. For instance, if you use the Razer Viper V3 Pro, you can connect the 2.4GHz dongle to the Firefly V2 Pro, and when it gets slow, remove the USB-C cable powering the mouse pad and use it to charge the mouse.

This feature has become a mainstay in my setup, giving me a lot more flexibility with the USB ports on my PC while making it easy to switch out dongles for other gaming mice that I’m reviewing. For many people, it likely won’t be an essential feature, and it’s certainly not the main selling point of Razer’s latest mouse pad, but it’s a neat addition that makes the Firefly V2 Pro even more exciting.

Unfortunately, the Firefly V2 Pro only comes in one size (at least, for now). It’s still a decent size and will certainly be enough for playing even on lower DPI settings, but if you’re hoping for a desk pad variation, you may want to hold out for a future upgrade—one that will likely be more expensive.

However, if you can stomach the $99.99 / £99.99 price tag, you’re getting an excellent mouse pad that is both useful and aesthetically pleasing. It’s one of the sleekest pads I’ve ever had the pleasure of using, and the USB port for a wireless dongle is a clever addition that is truly handy. A must-have for anyone looking for a conversation starter that works as well as it looks.

A high price tag may turn away some potential customers, but the Razer Firefly V2 Pro is a sleek, well-designed, and lovely piece of hardware that adds flair to your desk. With the USB port on the top for any dongles, it’s a must-have for any gamer looking to spice up their setup.
